VTT to SRT: common questions
Useful answers before you begin.
Are colors and positions preserved?
VTT STYLE, REGION, positioning parameters, and NOTE blocks are removed. This transfers text and timing rather than reproducing all web caption styling.
Are multiline and overlapping captions kept?
Yes. Existing valid timing and multiline text are retained. How overlapping captions display depends on the player.
Why will my file not convert?
Check the WEBVTT header, encoding, and start/end times. Renaming another file to .vtt does not convert it.
