What can YouTube to Text do?

Prepare a transcript for your channel, find a quotation in an interview, or caption a lesson excerpt. Start with your own original video or a file you have permission to save and process. Whisper recognizes the original spoken language, not text in the picture, and does not write a summary. If you already have SRT or VTT captions, use a subtitle-to-text converter instead of recognizing the audio again.

How to use YouTube to Text

Prepare your file, check the result, and download the format you need.

  1. 01

    Prepare your file

Prepare an authorized MP4, WebM or MOV file and check playback. The limits are 200 MB and 20 minutes; split longer videos in your editor first.

  2. 02

    Process and review

Choose the actual spoken language and transcribe locally. Replay key passages to check names, numbers, and quotations.

  3. 03

    Download your result

Download TXT for editing or SRT/VTT for captions. Match the same video edit and adjust time offsets if you combine subtitles from separate excerpts.

YouTube to Text: common questions

Useful answers before you begin.

Can I paste a YouTube URL to get a transcript?

Not in this version. This page reads a saved local video; it does not fetch watch-page links or connect to your channel. Use your original video or a file you are permitted to process.

What if the video already has captions?

If you already have an SRT or VTT file, use SRT to Text or VTT to Text to extract its words. This page recognizes speech from a video file.

Are transcription and subtitle downloads free?

Yes. Local transcription, review, and TXT/SRT/VTT export are free without signup. Each file is limited to 200 MB and 20 minutes; processing speed depends on your device.

Can I translate a video into another language?

This tool defaults to the original spoken language. You can translate to English, but not other target languages. It does not dub the video. The website language menu changes the interface, not the transcript language.
